“Climate change will damage economies, devastate populations, increase resource scarcity and dramatically impact the cost of doing business. So for both humanitarian and business reasons, it is imperative that companies of all sizes take action.” (Mainwaring, 2018).
Sproot is a homegrown permaculture and regenerative farming startup that aims to make farming more affordable, sustainable and scalable.
Traditional farming methods have proven to have negative environmental impacts, contributing to soil degradation and loss of biodiversity. In contrast, permaculture is an environmental solution aligned with the ESG business objectives by adopting a regenerative approach that prioritises maintaining and enhancing the soil's microbiological ecosystem. This results in consistent, high-quality food production while also replenishing and sustaining the land for future generations. Regenerative farming is crucial because it not only sustains agricultural productivity but also aids in carbon capture/sequestration, water conservation and the creation of more resilient ecosystems.
We have consulted farms in different parts of the country to convert their traditional farming methods into permaculture practises. We also have a retail product division that locally produces permaculture products (eg. natural enhancements, nutrients and fertilisers) for farmers when converting to permaculture.

Sproot has had the privilege of working with farms in Cape Town and Johannesburg to implement more permaculture and sustainable farming across the country, which has generated a turnover of R140 000 in permaculture consulting services BUT this isn’t creating the significant impact we would like to make. So we are pivoting
Procure land of our own and build a permaculture training center for the underprivileged.
In order to really ensure food security nationally, Sproot aims to provide individuals the tools and knowledge to grow their own food. By empowering people through education and resources, we can feed more people and create micro-businesses with the excess food grown. This solves the unemployment and inequality issues that South Africa faces.
SUPPORT! SUPPORT! SUPPORT!
As a small business, we cannot undertake such a huge task by ourselves. We would greatly appreciate financial support for the procurement of land and resources. This can be in the form of
